Get Full Auto Tinting in Chicago: Competitive Prices | Super High Quality
Tinting is the process of thin film application onto car windows. It provides protection against the damaging effects of the sun. But things are not that simple, because there are laws that are controlling the amount of light that can be blocked, and to make things even more complicated, they differ from one state to another.

Can I really get full auto tinting?
In the state of Illinois, you are allowed to tint the side-front, the side-back, and the back windows fully, while the windshield can only be tinted in the top 6 inches. By “fully” we mean that you can cover the entire surface of those windows with a tinting film, but you can’t tint them completely black. The maximum allowed VLT percentage is 35%.
This VLT stands for visible light transmission, so it refers to the amount of light that passes through the window, and not the percentage of darkness. So the darkest film possible will have a very low VLT, in this case, 5% is the lowest one.

Factors that affect car tint prices
The total cost of car window tint can change for a few simple reasons. It is not merely regarding the film itself. It depends on the kind of car, on the film you choose, and on the job.
- Vehicle size: Larger vehicles tend to be expensive to tint. SUVs and pickups are more glassy and therefore require more film and effort in comparison to a coupe or a sedan.
- Windows covered: Two front windows will be much cheaper than a complete car window tint. The addition of the rear glass, windshield, sunroof, or a windshield strip is going to increase the final cost.
- Condition of the vehicle: The older cars may require a longer time. When a car has outdated tint that is required to be taken off, broken seals or glass that is difficult to reach, the price could increase.
Window tint types
The type of film you choose has a big effect on price, comfort, and heat control. At our shop, we use XPEL films in three main options. XPEL CS is the most budget-friendly choice. It is a dyed film that gives your car a clean, darker look and solid UV protection. XPEL XR is a ceramic film with stronger heat rejection, so it is a good step up for daily drivers.
XPEL XR+ is the top option. It is a premium nano-ceramic film with the best heat blocking of the three, which is why it costs more. Our tint options include XPEL CS, XPEL XR, and XPEL XR+ as the main film choices, and carbon and ceramic films are the recommended types while dyed and metalized films are not very popular now.
Tint shade levels
Shade also matters. It changes both the look of your car and how much light comes through the glass. A 5% tint is very dark and gives the most privacy. A 20% tint is still dark but a bit easier for daily use. A 35% tint is a popular middle ground. A 50% tint looks lighter and keeps a more open feel.
We usually tell people this: go darker if you want more privacy, go lighter if you want a softer look and better night visibility. Just make sure your final choice follows Illinois tint laws.
