The short answer is: not as effective as it does during the day. The film works best when the light outside is stronger than that inside. You are able to clearly see outside, while those outside will not see anything inside. But during the night when the light is stronger inside, the privacy effect fades away. In case you particularly need nighttime privacy, there are special films designed for that.

The price obviously depends on the type of film. For example, the one-way mirror film is $7 per square foot and the regular frosted film is the same. A more complex frosted film can go up to $15 per square foot.
